Freelancers are basically individual persons already employed in some companies and they work as freelancer for extra income. They generally do not have a fixed working time and also there availability is very low compared to a company.
Freelancers very often disappear for days if they stuck with your project due to some critical bugs/fixings, hence they do not have any responsibility or dedication towards a project they take as a freelancer.
Sometime freelancers take a project and outsource it to their fellow designers/developers who are comparatively less experienced. That means delay, poor quality to your project.
Personally i have seen many occassions where freelancers took the job and advance payment, after that they dis-appear without doing the work. There is many cases one can find on freelance portals.
